'Veer' Savarkar



Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, commonly addressed as 'Veer' Savarkar was an Indian independence movement activist and a politician. He was credited with developing the Hindu National political ideology ‘Hindutva’. He was born on May 28, 1883 in Bhagur. He began his revolutionary activities when he became associated with Indian House. He used to travel extensively to carry out his revolutionary activities and became a forceful orator and writer, advocating Hindu political and social unity.
He became a fierce critic of the Indian National Congress and controversially opposed the Quit India struggle in 1942. He spent the last years of his life writing and expounding on Hindutva. He passed away on February 27, 1966.
