V.S. Naipaul



V.S. Naipaul or Sir Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul was born on August 17th 1932 in Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago. Currently, this British writer of Indian origin is the resident of Wiltshire. Naipaul has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for the year 2001 besides being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in the year 1990.
Naipaul became the 1st writer of Indian origin to win a Booker Prize for his book ‘In a Free State’ in the year 1971. His works in fiction and especially his travel writing have been a focus of criticism owing to his insensitive portrayal of the Third World.
