Umaid Bhawan Palace



Umaid Bhawan Palace is a palace located at Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. It was originally named as Chittar palace. The Umaid Bhawan Palace, India's last great Palace was constructed between 1929 and 1944. It was actually constructed to provide employment to around 3000 people, whose lives were disrupted by consecutive years of drought.


The palace grounds cover 26 acres, out of which constructed area is 3.5 acres and 15 acres are devoted to lawns. The palace has European interiors and most modern facilities. The style of construction reflects the Rajput taste. The Palace has been divided into three parts, i.e. a hotel, residence of the royal family and for public viewing where a small museum displays pictures, arms, swords, and other items relating to Jodhpur's royal heritage.
