The Presidential Saloon

The Presidential Saloon train is not exactly a train. This is a pair of twin coaches specially kept for President of India. This pair of coaches is well designed to be said as a last word of luxury. The coaches have a dining room, a lounge room or conference room, and the president's bedroom. There is a kitchen as well as few chambers for staff who is accompanying the president. They are furnished with teak furniture and silk drapes and cushion covers.

These coaches were built in 1956. The Presidential Saloon was last used by President Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, in 1977. As per the tradition it was used when president moves to his home after completion of his term from Delhi to his home town.

Recently Dr APJ Abdul Kalam used it again in the year 2003 for traveling from Hernaut to Patna. These coaches were upgraded then and got the modern facilities like satellite communication, wi-fi etc. installed.
