The Grand Trunk Express

The Grand Trunk Express is one of the oldest and famous trains in India. This train is commonly known by the name of G.T. or G.T. express. The train was first open to traffic in year 1929. This train is on one of the longest routes in India. It covers a distance of 2186 KM (1358 miles) running between New Delhi and Chennai. This train covers this long distance in 35 hours and 35 minutes passing by 38 halts in between.
GT express has a very interesting history associates with it. Initially this train ran between Peshawar (Now in Pakistan) to Mangalore and took about 104 hours. From the year 1930 it started running on its present route i.e. from Delhi to Madras.

This prestigious train was one among few trains that used early methods of cooling air by ice blocks. In the early 1970s it got its complete air-conditioned rake. This long train comprises of 25 coaches.
