Indian television made its debut in the year 1959 in New Delhi with trials for educational telecasts. However, it was in the year mid-1970s that Indian small screen programming got a kick start. Initially there was sole national channel, ‘Doordarshan’ but with the development over years several new private TV channels have come up. This was primarily due ti the liberalization of markets. These recent TV channels can be enumerated as:
- Zee TV
- STAR TV
- NEO Sports
- Cartoon Network
Ever since then, there has been a surge in the amount of channels presented. These channels are not only restricted to daily soaps but also telecast news, talk shows, women related shows, and even reality shows. At present, the television industry has witnessed the emergence of channels that not only cater to different concerns of individuals but also have broken the language barriers owing to the emergence of several regional channels.
