Statue of Gomateswara



The Statue of Gomteshwara is situated in the Hassan district of Karnataka state. It is a huge monolithic statue that stands above a hill. It is believed to be built in the 10th century A.D. and is considered to be influenced by the Jain architecture. The Statue of Gomteshwara was created by Chamundraya in around 983 A.D, who was a minister of the Ganga King, Rajamalla.


The statue of lord Gomteshwara is 17m. (55 ft) high and is visible from a distance of 30km.

On the event of Mahamastakabhisheka that comes once in 12 years lot of pilgrims and devotees gather at this place to offer their prayers to the almighty.
