Shatabdi Express

Shatabdi Express is a series of trains introduced by Indian Railways. These trains are claimed to be faster than the other super-fast trains running in India. Primarily Shatabdis connect metro towns, major cities and business hubs. These trains are targeted more towards tourists and business men.
The first Shatabdi was introduced in 1988 by then Railways Minister Late. Mr. Madhav Rao Scindia. Shatabdi means centenary in Hindi and that is why it was flagged off in year 1988 to commemorate the birth centenary of Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.

Shatabdis run on a short distance with an average speed of 80-120 KMPH. The fastest Shatabdi is the first one i.e. New Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express which @ 150 KMPH.

Shatabdis provide full day meals to its passengers and it has all ac rakes. An interesting fact about Shatabdi trains is that they are generally found at platform no. 1 of almost every station. At present there are 12 pairs of Shatabdis running on different routes.
