Shalimar Garden Jammu Kashmir

The Shalimar garden was built by Emperor Jehangir for his wife Nur Jahan in 1616. The garden has four terraces. The top terrace was preserved for the Mughal Emperors and the royal ladies. For supplying water to the garden, a canal was built through the centre of the Shalimar Bagh.
There is a stone pavilion built in the middle of the top terrace. The pavilion used to serve as a banquet hall at that period. Some of the major highlights of this garden are the fountains, innumerable variety of flowers and shaded trees. Another superb attraction of the garden is the light and sound show organised every evening, during the month of May to October.
