Shalimar Garden

The Shalimar Garden is located behind Delhi University, near the northern ridge. It is just 10 km away from Old Delhi and is one among the significant Mughal gardens. It is the place where in 1658 Aurangzeb crowned himself as the Mughal emperor. The park was formerly known as "Aizzabad-Bagh", named after Shah Jahan's wife.
The garden was renovated and re-laid in 2006. It has been re-made with water bodies and imported grass. Many buildings were built during the time of Emperor Shah Jahan. However, at present, the place is mostly in ruins, left only with the Shish Mahal and some patches of painting.
