Satyendra Nath Bose



Satyendra Nath Bose, born on January 1, 1894, was an Indian Bengali physicist, specialising in mathematical physics. He is best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s, providing the foundation for Bose-Einstein statistics and the theory of the Bose-Einstein condensate.
Satyendra Nath Bose became a Professor of Physics in Dhaka University in 1926. In 1944, he became the chairman of the Physics of the Indian Science Congress. In 1945, he was appointed as Khaira Professor of Physics in Calcutta University. Later he became the Vice Chancellor of the Viswabharati University. In 1958, he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society, London. He was conferred the ‘Padmabhusan’ in recognition of his outstanding achievement. He died in Kolkata on February 4, 1974.
