Saraswati Puja



Saraswati Puja is celebrated to show allegiance to Saraswati, the Goddess of learning and education. It is held in the month of Magh (January- February) on the day of Vasant Panchami. It is believed that on this very day, Goddess Saraswati was born. It is a festival that is basically celebrated by the students to get the blessings of the goddess to attain success in learning.

In west Bengal, Saraswati Puja is celebrated in a splendid manner. It is also celebrated in schools, and colleges in other states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerela and Andra Pradesh. People eat vegetarian food on this day.

Mantra for Saraswati Vandana:

Yaa Kundendu tushaara haaradhavalaa,
Yaa shubhravastraavritha Yaa veenavara dandamanditakara,
Yaa shwetha padmaasana Yaa brahmaachyutha
shankara prabhutibhir Devaisadaa Vanditha,
Saa Maam Paatu Saraswatee Bhagavatee Nihshesha jaadyaapahaa
