Sanchi Stupas



Sanchi Stupas is the most magnificent structures built by Emperor Asoka in the honour of Lord Buddha. It is located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the finest and oldest specimens of Buddhist architecture. The Stupas are large hemispherical domes that contain a central chamber where the relics of the Buddha were placed. In the Sanchi stupas, one can trace the development of the Buddhist architecture and sculpture that begun from the 3rd century B.C. to the 12th century A.D.
The Sanchi stupas are famous for the ornamented depiction of incidents from the life of the Buddha. It also consists of the prior incarnations as Bodhisattvas described in Jataka tales.
