Ravi Shastri



Ravishankar Jayadritha Shastri, known as Ravi Shastri was born in Mumbai on 27th May 1962. He is a former Indian cricketer and captain of the Indian team. He is renowned as a good all-rounder. He started his international career in 1972, which lasted for about 12 years. One of the major achievements of his career was when he was awarded the Champion of Champions in the 1985 World Championship of Cricket, held in Australia. He retired from international cricket in 1993 due to severe knee injury.


Ravi Shastri also coached the Indian cricket team during their 2007 Bangladesh tour. He is now a prominent TV commentator. He is being named as the Celebrity Torchbearer for the 2008 Oman Leg of Summer Olympics torch relay.
