Population in India |
|
India occupies only 2.4% of the world's land area but it supports over 17.5% of the world's population. India’s population is around 1.13 billion people and it comprises around one- sixth of the world population.
About 70% of the people live in more than 550,000 villages, and the remainder in more than 200 towns and cities. People of all religions, caste and language live in this country. Although 83% of the people are Hindu, India also is the home of more than 120 million Muslims--one of the world's largest Muslim populations. The population also includes Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, and Parsis. Two other categories of India's population that are closely inspected by the national census are that of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. |
