Maha Shivratri

Maha Shivratri is an auspicious religious Hindu festival devoted to Lord Shiva. It is celebrated every year on the 6th night of the month of Plalgun (February to March). It is believed that on this day Lord Shiva got married to Goddess Parvati. It also marks the night when Lord Shiva performed Tandava, the dance of primordial creation, preservation and destruction. The entire ceremony chiefly takes place during the night.
On this day, devotees of Lord Shiva observe fast and offer him flower, bel leaves and fruits. The Panchakshara Mantra is chanted and repeated by the devotees. Several pilgrims flock to the Shiva temples to offer prayers on this day.
