Magh Mela

Magh Mela is an annual religious event and is also known as the smaller version of the great Kumbh Mela. This auspicious event falls in the month of Magh (January- February) and is held in Sangam, where the river Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati confluences. It begins every year in January from Makar Sankranti and ends in February at Maha Shivratri. After every twelfth year the Magh Mela is celebrated as the Kumbh Mela, when millions of pilgrims congregate to celebrate the remarkable event.
During the period when Magh Mela is held, pilgrims take bath in the holy Sangam. Temporary shelters are built up to shelter the pilgrims. For the whole duration the devotee lives in those shelters.
