M.F. Hussain



Maqbool Fida Husain, commonly known as M F Husain, is one of the best known painters of India. He was born on October 1915, in Maharashtra. He started his career by painting cinema hoardings. In the late 1940s, he became a well known artist. His first solo exhibition was held in 1952, at Zurich. In 1955, he was awarded the Padma Shree by the Government of India.

In 1973, Husain was awarded the Padma Bhushan and in 1986, he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha. In 1991, he received the Padma Vibhushan. He made his first film in 1967 named 'Through the Eyes of a Painter' for which he won a Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
