Lala Lajpat Rai



Lala Lajpat Rai was born on 28th January, 1865. He was popularly known as the Lion of Punjab. He was a renowned Indian author and politician, chiefly remembered as a leader in the Indian fight for freedom from the British Rule. He was also the founder of the Punjab National Bank and Lakshmi Insurance Company.


Lala Lajpat Rai was also a prominent Hindu Nationalist member of the Indian National Congress. He was also a member of the Hindu Maha Sabha, presently known as the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 1920, he presided over the first session of the All India Trade Union Congress. He was also a good orator and a prolific and versatile writer. He passed away on November 17, 1928.
