Kiran Desai



Kiran Desai, an Indian author was born on September 3rd 1971. She studied creative writing at Bennington College, Hollins University as well as Columbia University. In the year 1998, she published her first novel, Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard that received appreciation from prominent figures such as Salman Rushdie. Her first novel also won her Society of Authors for the best new novels by citizens of the Commonwealth of Nations under the age of 35’s ‘The Betty Trask Award'.
She has also won the 2006 Man Booker Prize as well as the National Book Critics Circle Fiction Award for her second novel ‘The Inheritance of Loss’. She was also invited to the biographical music tête-à-tête programme, Private Passions hosted by Michael Berkeley on BBC Radio 3 in September 2007.
