Kashi Vishwanath Temple



Kashi Vishwanath temple is situated amidst the holy city of Varanasi and is one of the most popular Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple stands on the western bank of the holy river Ganges. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The main deity of this temple is known as Vishwanatha.
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple has been destroyed and rebuilt a number of times. The present structure of the temple is believed to have been built by Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore in 1780. The temple is being managed by the government of Uttar Pradesh since 1983. Religious occasion such as Shivratri and Kashi Naresh is celebrated here with great zeal and vigor.
