Kapil Dev



Kapil Dev Ramlal Nikhanj, popularly known as Kapil Dev was born on 6 January 1959, in Chandigarh. He is a former Indian cricket player. He is regarded as the greatest all-rounder player under whose captainship, India won the first and only Cricket World Cup in 1983. He holds the record for the most Test match wickets between 1994 and 1999.


As a batsman, Kapil was a natural striker who could drive and hook effectively. He was and aggressive player and often helped India to win by taking the attack to the opposition during difficult situations. For all his aptitude, he got his nickname ‘The Haryana Hurricane’ as he represented the Haryana cricket team.
