Kamal Amrohi



Kamal Amrohi was one of the prominent film director, screen writer and dialogue writer of the Indian cinema. He was also a well known Hindi and Urdu poet. He was born on 17 January. Some of his famous Hindi film classics are Mahal (1949), Pakeezah (1972) and Razia Sultan (1983). In 1953, he established Kamal Pictures and in 1958 Kamalistan Studio in Bombay.

In 1949, Kamal made his debut as a director with the film Mahal. In his entire career he has directed only four films and wrote scripts and dialogues for several movies. He won the Filmfare awards in 1960, for the dialogues written by him for the film Mughal-e-Azam. He died on February 11, 1993 in Mumbai.
