K Kamaraj



Kamaraj Kumarasami, or K. Kamaraj, an Indian politician was born on July 15th 1903. He was acknowledged for his integrity, honesty, and simplicity. He was lovingly referred to as the 'Gandhi of the South'.
In Tamil Nadu, he is still acclaimed for facilitating the spread of education to the rural poor with introduction of free education as well as mid-day meals scheme in schools during his tenure as a Chief Minister in the year 1957. In the year 1976, he was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna.

Although Kamaraj dropped out of school in the 6th grade but realized the importance of education and educated himself in his periods of imprisonment. A Tamil movie titled 'Kamaraj' was also released in the year 2004 based his life.
