Jhumpa Lahiri



Jhumpa Lahiri is a Bengali Indian descent and is an America author. She was born on 11 July, 1967 in London and was named Nilanjana Sudeshna. She made her first debut with her short story collection Interpreter of Maladies in 1999 and won the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.  The Namesake (2003), which was later adapted into the popular film of the same name was her first novel.
Unaccustomed Earth is the second collection of short stories of Lahiri, released on April 1, 2008 that achieved the distinction of debuting on The New York Times best seller list in the number 1 slot. She has been a Vice President of the PEN American Centre, since 2005. It is an organisation designed to promote friendship and intellectual cooperation among writers.
