Jamshed-I- Navroz



Jamshedji Navroz is celebrated on 21st March. It is the New Year's Day for the Parsi community and is celebrated with lot of feasting. This celebration goes century back when the King Jamshed of ancient Persia introduced the solar calendar for the first time.
The Parsis wear new clothes to celebrate this festival. All the door and windows are decorated with flowers. Beautiful colourful patterns are made in the steps and thresholds. Guests are welcomed by sprinkling rose water. Later, they pay visit to the fire-temples to offer sandalwood and perform rituals and prayers. After prayer they hug and greet each other. The celebration ends with a grand feast of specially prepared cuisines.
