Jagjit Singh



Jagjit Singh, born on February 8, 1941, is a famous ghazal singer from India. He sings in different languages. His association with music goes back to his childhood. Besides ghazals, Jagjit Singh has also sung Bhajans and Gurbani. Initially, he learnt music under Pandit Chaganlal Sharma for two years in Ganganagar. Later, he devoted six years to learn the different forms of Indian Classical Music from Ustad Jamaal Khan of the Sainia Gharana School.
In search of better opportunities, Jagjit arrived in Mumbai in 1965. In 1976, his album ‘The Unforgettable’ hit the music stores. He has also sung as a playback singer for several Bollywood films. In 2003, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, and in 2006, Teacher's Achievement Awards.
