Indian Botanical Garden

The Indian Botanical Gardens, also known as 'The Royal Botanical Garden' is situated in Shibpur, Howrah near Kolkata. The garden was founded by Colonel Robert Kyd in 1787. It displays a wide variety of plants and a collection of more than 12,000 specimens. The garden is spread over 109 hectares of area.
One of the major attractions of this garden is the Great Banyan tree that is considered to be one of the largest trees in the world. The garden is also famous for its huge collection of bamboos, orchids and palms. Beside, various researches on plant multiplication, horticulture and conservation aspects are also done here.
