India Gate |

India Gate is situated on the Rajpath Road, in New Delhi. This monument was built by Edwin Lutyens to honor the Indian soldiers who died in World War I. 'Amar Jawan Jyoti' or the flame of the immortal warrior is burning under it since 1971.

The foundation stone was laid on 10 February 1921 by the Duke of Connaught. The names of the soldiers who died in these wars are inscribed on the walls. It was completed in 1931. It is 42 meters high.
The popular India Gate is located in the centre of the capital, and is easily reachable by the tourists. It has become a famous recreational place for the local people of Delhi in summer evenings and a popular picnic spot in winter months. |
