Haridwar India

A paradise of nature lover, Haridwar is one of the seven holiest spots in India. It is known by the name of the holy city. Haridwar is a historic representative and a hub of Indian culture and civilization. Hari (God) Dwar (gateway) is also a starting point for a pilgrim who is on the journey to Char Dham. It is also known by the name of Hardwar as its Hindi name. Haridwar or Hardwar, as a name, has its own significance. The followers of Lord Shiva on their journey to Kedar Nath (Devoted to Lord Shiva) call this holy city as Har (Mahadev / Shiva) dwar (gate) meaning gateway to Lord Shiva (for reaching Kedar Nath). The same way followers of Lord Vishnu call it as Hari (Vishnu) dwar (gateway) for reaching Badri Nath.
Haridwar is also known by the name of Gangadwar since Ganges flows first from here after its origin from Gaumukh Glacier at Himalayas. The evening Prayer at the bank of Ganges (Har Ki Pauri) in Haridwar is the main attraction while visiting Haridwar.
