Gol Gumbad is the mausoleum of Muhammad Adil Shah II. It is located in Bijapur district in Karnataka State. It is an important monument of Indo-Islamic architecture and is suitably known for its amazing dimensions and exclusive auditory features. It was built in 1659 by Yaqut of Dabul, a famous architect.

It is one of the biggest single chamber structures in the world and covers an area of 18,225 square feet. The mausoleum is part of a complex that includes a mosque, a dharmshala and other buildings related to the sovereign's mausoleum.
The monument is built of dark grey basalt. It is 100 feet in height. The Gol Gumbad is surmounted by a big and massive dome. |
