Flying Ranee

The Flying Ranee is a classic train that started in India in its Pre-Independence phase. This classic train started operating from the year 1906. The name Flying Ranee has been adapted to give its reference of a royal train. Ranee means Queen in Hindi. Originally this train was started as a week end special. But in the year 1914 on April 24, it was discontinued. The Flying Ranee was restarted on 1st May, 1937 and now it was given the name of Flying Queen. This train is also referred at that time as" Flying Ranee, Queen of the West Coast".
This train ran between Bombay and Surat and was a hit mode of transport for the business travelers. The performance of this train was remarkable since it covered its journey in only 4 hours. It was again discontinued 1939 due to war risks. On 1st November 1950 the train again started from Surat as the Flying Ranee and has been running since then.

On Dec. 18, 1979, double-decker cars were added to the Flying Ranee's rake.
