Chinkara



The Chinkara is a species of gazelle found in South Asia. These are basically found in grasslands and desert areas in India, parts of Iran, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is also known as the Indian Gazelle.
The life expectancy of a Chinkara is between 12 to 15 years. They attain a height of about 65 cm and they weigh around 23-25 kg. Its coat is covered with smooth and glossy fur, which is reddish-brown in color and the belly of the chinkara is white. Chinkara also has horns, which have an average length of 30 cm. One of the unique characteristics of the chinkara is that it can survive without water for days at a stretch. They feed upon grass and fruit. By nature, chinkara is considered to be a shy and nervous animal.
