Bhai Dooj

Bhai Dooj is celebrated every year on the fifth and last day of Diwali celebrations. This festival falls on a new moon night. It is festival of brothers and sisters. On this day sisters shower their love on their brothers. They put an auspicious 'tilak' on the forehead of their brothers and perform an 'aarti' of him and pray to god to protect their brothers from all wicked and evil forces. Sisters are gifted with gifts, goodies and blessings from their brothers. The brothers also take pledge to protect their sisters from all evils.
It is day of love, gifts and promises. It is believed that on this day, Yamraj, the Lord of Death, visits his sister, Yami, who shower her love by putting auspicious tilak on his forhead, and prays for him. So it is believed that anyone who receives a tilak from his sister on this day would never be sent to hell.
