Arthunkal Feast

Arthunkal Feast is also known as the 'feast of St.Sebastian'. It refers to the grand celebrations held at St. Andrew's Forane Church at Arthunkal, 15 km from Alappuzha town, south Kerala. Every year, lakhs of devotees, both Christian as well as non-Christian congregates here from all part of the state.
The Arthunkal Feast is celebrated for eleven days. The main highlight of the last day of this festival includes a special ritual in which the devotees crawl on their knees all the way from the nearby beach to the church. Later, there is a ceremonial procession to the beach. A great part of the devotee who flocks to this church for worship includes those who have recovered from severe illness or escaped grave accidents.
