Udupi Rajagopalacharya Ananthamurthy was born on December 31 in the year 1931. He is a great writer and critic in Kannada language and known as one of the most important leader of the Navya movement. He started his career in 1970 as a professor and instructor in the Department of English of University of Mysore. He has performed many significant works for literacy which has been translated into several Indian and European languages.
Ananthamurthy is the sixth person, who was awarded the Jnanpith Award for Kannada language. He was also honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Bhusan.
