Amartya Sen



Amartya Kumar Sen was born on 3 November 1933. He is an Indian philosopher and economist. For his contribution to welfare economics, he won the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in 1998. He was the Master of Trinity Cambridge University from 1988 to 2004. He is a former honorary president of Oxfam and has also given lectures to senior executives of the World Bank.
Sen has made great contributions for the development of economics for which he was conferred with several awards including the Bharat Ratna (1999). Presently, he is the Lamont University Professor at Harvard University and is a trustee of Economists for Peace and Security. Many of his books have been translated in more than thirty languages.
