Alla Rakha



Ustad Alla Rakha was born on April 29 of 1919 at a village called Phagwal, near Jammu in India. He was a master of the tabla and began his musical career in Lahore. In 1940 he performed as an All India Radio artist in Bombay. He also performed as an accompanist with Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Vasant Rai, Ustad Allauddin Khan and Pandit Ravi Shankar.
Alla Rakha was recognised by the world in 1960s, while performing as a chief accompanist of Pandit Ravi Shankar. He narrowed the gap between Hindustani music and Carnatic music by performing with both famous Hindustani artists and Carnatic artists. He died on the 3rd February, 2000 due to a sudden heart attack.
